Door-to-door salespeople put Madison Co. residents on alert | News
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- Some door-to-door sales people traveling in an unmarked white van are creating a stir in Madison County. People who are nervous about what the people in the van are up to contacted police and WAFF 48 News.
There's a lot of chatter about the white van on Facebook, both comments and photos. People are saying it's been seen around many neighborhoods in Madison County and is making people uneasy. They are concerned the business may not be legitimate.
Witnesses say it's generally two men and a woman.
"He stood there for probably five minutes even after I told him I wasn't interested," said one homeowner. "Then I backed myself up into the house because I didn't want to turn my back on him. I wasn't getting good vibes from him."
"I thought it was strange the way they were persistent about wanting to come in and I wasn't about to let them come in," he continued.
When reached for comment, the company stated they are a legitimate business and are members of the Hoover Chamber of Commerce. The business's EIN number: 45-3981672 was also provided.
Michele Mason with the Better Business Bureau said she has not received reports of the sales people in her office, but she said there are rules that solicitors people need to follow in the city limits.
"The city of Huntsville did pass an ordinance so anytime someone that lives in the city limits has someone coming door to door, that individual should have a photo ID that has their picture as well as the company and some information that's going to let you know that they have been registered with the city," she said.
The Huntsville Police Department has received several reports as well, and they are checking into this. A spokesperson advised residents to lock their doors, and to not open the door to strangers.
