Post holiday shopping helps with business' bottom line | News

ATHENS, AL (WAFF)- Christmas may be over, but that doesn't mean the holiday shopping is finished. Retailers are still seeing people come through their doors ready to buy. North Alabama businesses say that's good news for them and their bottom line.

Nationally, shoppers were cautious where they spent money this holiday season, but business is booming at Trinity's Gifts and Interiors in Athens.

"Every year business gets better," said owner Tammy Strickland. She said even though Santa has come and gone, people are flocking in to prepare for next year.

"It's been very busy," she said. "People are looking for the sales. The half off Christmas or anything they can get on sale."

 The store sells jewelry, home decor and more. Money from every sale stays in the town.

"Our tax dollars stay here in town, and we work really hard to make a good shopping environment for the local people," Strickland said.

Every year, Strickland compares her sales to previous years, and this year, her expectations have been exceeded.

"I wouldn't say there were more shoppers; I think people spent more this year," she said.

With another successful holiday season under their belts, workers at Trinity's get a quick break before they are back to work for next year. They start buying for Christmas 2013 in two weeks.
