BBB warns of scam involving pretend military member | News

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- Trying to scam someone is bad enough. Pretending to be a member of our nation's military while you're doing it is much worse.

Several people have received either text messages or e-mails like this one from people claiming to be serving in the military in the Middle East who've come across some money and need your help to smuggle it back to the U.S.

"Very suspicious when you would have a soldier telling you they've come across money and they want you to help them. By doing that, you would be doing something very sneaky anyway because anyone coming across money that's serving our country should be turning that over to authorities," said Michele Mason with the Better Business Bureau.

Mason said a red flag here is the fact that this message isn't sent to you personally. She said to ask yourself why someone you don't know would send that message to you.

And, of course, don't do it.
