Man charged with stealing carpet

Madison, AL (WAFF) - Madison Police have arrested and charged a man with burglary and theft. Investigators say he was stealing rolls of carpet from a local business.

38 year old Alejandro Vidales was working as a contractor for the unnamed company last year when the items went missing. Police say the thefts happened between May and December of 2012.

Vidales is being held on a $22,500 bond.

Madison police caught up with two men wanted on burglary and theft charges.

29-year-old Felipe Matias-Manual and 24-year-old Pascual Matias-Miguel were charged with breaking into a business on Sullivan Street on March 20th.

Officers said they stole blank payroll checks and cashed them in decatur where more charges are pending.

Both were booked in the metro jail.

New SRO joins Madison Schools

Madison, AL (WAFF) - A new School Resource Officer is on the job in Madison.

Patrolman Jason Bolden will cover Heritage, Mill Creek, Columbia and West Madison Elementary. He replaces Officer Ed Sasan who left in December.

Bolden is already known to many students.

Men plead guilty to scamming Madison Co. investors

Two men have entered guilty pleas in Madison County Court to securities fraud charges.

Bruce Mabey of Utah and Patrick Daleiden of Florida entered the pleas on November 27th.

According to District Attorney Rob Broussard, the men were each sentenced to six years in prison, and pay $1,475,000 in restitution to victims.

The men are also involved in a scam case in Choctow County, with Madison County resident Matthe Gibson. Gibson pled guilty on November 28th in that case. He was sentenced to a year in prison, according to Joseph P. Borg, the Director of the Alabama Securities Commission.

The men reportedly scammed Madison County residents out of millions of dollars on a phony development in Choctaw County. Investors were given worthless promissory notes while the men put the investments in personal accounts.

Teenager pleads guilty to manslaughter

A Madison County teenager pleaded guilty to manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident.

19-year-old Kyle David Morgan appeared before a judge Monday at the Madison County Courthouse in Huntsville.

Morgan admitted to hitting and killing 6-year-old Matthew Dahl last summer.

It happened while Matthew was riding his bicycle on Kinsdale Drive in Madison County. Matthew was a student at Legacy Elementary School.

Amy Bishop Anderson defense to cost taxpayers more than half a million dollars

Court records filed Tuesday show Amy Bishop Anderson defense costs have topped $500,00. The UAH shooter was approved indigent status before trial.

Judge Alan Mann has ordered payments of $100,426.91 to defense attorney Roy Miller. Another order grants co-council Barry Abston $452,681.28.

An order filed for the third member of the defense team, Robert Tuten, did not list a dollar amount. That order stated Tuten's bill was reasonable, but the certification is not an approval for the amount submitted.

Bishop Anderson shot six people during a biology department meeting at UAH in February 2010. Three of the victims died.

Bishop Anderson pleaded guilty to three counts of attempted murder and was sentenced to life in prison.

Attorneys request delay for former teacher's aide

Attorneys for Michael Horton have filed a motion requesting a Madison County judge to delay the former teacher's aide's trial. The case is currently set to go to trial November 5th.

Horton is accused of sexually abusing a child in Madison in 2009. He worked as a teacher's aide at Providence School.

The motion for a continuance stated the defense attorney is involved in a federal trial in Chattanooga, Tennessee. That trial is expected to last through November 5th.
