Elite Creations women in business presents the 2011 luncheon!  Take your idea from concept to reality or find new ways to grow your business. 

The event will be held on June 25th from 11am to 2pm at four points by the Sheraton at the Huntsville International Airport.  The keynote speaker will be A'Lelia Bundles.  She is the president of the Madam Walker/A'Lelia Walker Family Archives and author of On Her Own Ground: The life and Times of Madam C.J. Walker, the award-winning , New York Times bestselling biography of her great-great-grandmother. 

Asbury community thrift store is moving

The Asbury Community Thrift Store is moving from the Madison Pike location to 925 Portal Lane in Madison.  The thrift store still gives back to the community as your hand helping your neighbors.  Visit the new location on opening day Saturday, June 25 and shop around the spacious store.
 
Donations such as washers, dryers and other appliances are currently needed. Donations are tax deductible and may be dropped off at the new drop off location garage door, or have the items picked up from your business or home by calling 256-464-0460.

Many fathers struggle to balance work, family: survey

Most working fathers say they want to share child-raising duties equally with their spouse/partner, but a lot of them admit that they aren't actually doing so, a new survey shows.

The findings suggest that many dads are conflicted about finding a work-family balance, according to researchers at the Boston College Center for Work & Family.

The survey of nearly 1,000 American fathers with professional careers found that the respondents rated job security and flexible working hours as more important than high income and good advancement opportunities.

Madison business receives grant from Governor

Madison business receives grant from Governor

Some that work at a Madison business will have an opportunity to help their company become more competitive with the help of a $23,750 grant awarded by Governor Robert Bentley.

Majestic Solutions Inc. will use the funds to train its seven employees in skills that will boost quality control and help the company meet quality assurance standards often required in new contracts.  The company, which manufactures equipment used in prisons and jails, will contribute $44,400 toward the training costs.

North Alabama culinary festival

North Alabama culinary festival

The North Alabama Culinary Festival will be held June 20th at the Holiday Inn West on Madison Boulevard in Madison. This event will be from 5:00pm-7:30pm. Last year the event was called "the Taste of Madison."

There were about 400 people in attendance last year and this year looks to be even better! Advance tickets are $20 and at the door price is $25.

Power outages

Power outages

Currently there is a power outage in northwest Madison County in the Harvest area extending from Harvest Road, south along Old Railroad Bed Road and Yarborough Roads to Capshaw Road.  Several adjoining and adjacent streets will be affected.  Service will be restored as quickly as possible.

There are also still several hundred customers without power due this morning’s storm. Crews continue to work on those outages.
