MADISON, AL (WAFF)- The City of Madison broke ground Tuesday on a long-awaited transportation project.
Governor Robert Bentley made an appearance at the groundbreaking ceremony of the new I-565 interchange at County Line Road.
"The construction of the Interchange at I-565 and County Line Road will enhance the transportation infrastructure in the Madison area and help keep travel flowing smoothly. Our transportation dollars are scarce, but this project is a wise investment in the future growth of the City of Madison," said Gov. Bentley.
The new interchange will provide access for motorists to and from I-565 to Madison Boulevard and County Line Road. Drivers from Madison and Limestone Counties will have another access point to the interstate.
Madison Mayor Troy Trulock said the interchange will cost $17.2 million. He said the city is paying ten percent of that, and the rest is coming from federal funds.
