Car seat safety parents' first concern while traveling

Car seat safety should be one of the first things parents get checked.

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- Now is the time many of us grab the kids and our stuff and travel.  Whether it's for a week or the day, car seat safety should be one of the first things parents get checked.

Little Kelsey is only 8 months old, but he is the center of his parent's world. His dad, Pranteek Patnaik, is in the medical field and knows how important safety is for traveling with children.

That's why he came to Huntsville Hospital to allow the pros to install Kelsey's car seat.

"I think, as a parent, safety, obviously, we always hear the term "precious cargo" and safety with that, and your little one brings it to a whole new level when you're a parent," said Patnaik.

The technician will go over some specific points with dad, give him a quick safety lesson, and make sure the seat is installed correctly.

Cheers for Craft Beer: Old Black Bear has a home

Cheers for Craft Beer: Old Black Bear has a home

Moving on up!  That’s what the craft beer scene is doing in the state of Alabama.  From the passage of the homebrew bill yesterday to the craft breweries coming to fruition, Alabama is on the rise.

As a Madison resident, I am excited to see our downtown grow by leaps and bounds in just the past year!  New shops are popping up like Sady’s Bistro, Whistle Stop Sweet Shop alongside old favorites like Bandito Burrito and Madison City Cafe.  Downtown is booming with life and art.  The SPACES Trail and Gazebo Concerts from the Madison Arts Council help to draw people downtown.

Mapco customer financial information at risk

If you shopped at a Mapco convenience store recently, your financial information may be at risk.

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- If you shopped at a Mapco convenience store recently, your financial information may be at risk.

Mapco is warning that hackers may have gained access to customer debit card and credit card information. The chain said customers who made credit card or debit card purchases at certain locations during three different time periods are at risk.
This includes Mapco stores across the south, including Alabama and Tennessee. Those dates are march 19th through the 25th, April 14th, 15th, 20th and 21st.

If you think you've been hacked, call 1-877-297-2081.

MAPCO Express, Inc. has been out in front of the breaches, including an in-depth page that links directly to the three credit bureaus. If that link does not take you to the security alert page, click on "Security Alert" on MapcoExpress.com.

Cheers for Craft Beer: Rocket Republic is Coming Soon

Cheers for Craft Beer: Rocket Republic is Coming Soon

Did you know that Madison County has several breweries in the works?  We have so many talented people in our area, it’s no wonder Madison County is growing by leaps and bounds with craft beer breweries.

What I find so wonderful about the craft beer market is the camaraderie between breweries.  While they compete on the shelves, they have a common goal to educate people about craft beer and to help each other succeed. It’s very Musketeer-ish (all for one, one for all).

WEATHER BLOG: Finally warming up

WEATHER BLOG: Finally warming up

By Jeff Castle

It hasn't felt at all like May in the last few days and it's in fact been a record setting stretch of cool weather.  Some of you may have even had to turn the heat back on for a little bit (I toughed it out, even though it got as cool as 63 in the house!).

Ceremony held for Madison Co. drug court graduates

A ceremony for those graduates was at the Madison County Courthouse.

MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- More than a dozen Madison County drug offenders are moving forward after a special ceremony for completing the county's drug court.

A ceremony for those graduates was at the Madison County Courthouse.

All graduates are non-violent offenders.

They had to complete three phases of the program, which lasts a total of 32 weeks.

During each phase, the participants had to undergo random drug testing and be required to seek treatment for their addiction.

"This program is designed to assist individuals that have been pulled out and determined that they may be someone that can be helped, and if they can be, you can go through the program. That is difficult because it means one: getting off the drug, two: realizing what caused you to use it, and three: learn how to deal with those factors," said Madison County District Judge Claude Hundley.
